Audience Research

In order to gain a better understanding of what my magazine should include to attract my target audience to the best possible standard, I have conducted a poll on my blog to gain audience feedback. I learned that the target audience for my film would mainly consist of teenagers to young adults, therefore my ancillary texts should be suitable for the same age group.

Analysis of results

61% of the people who participated in my poll were female, which makes the results slightly biased to female point of view, however I have already pointed out that I expect the majority of the target audience for my film to be females, so this is an accurate reflection of the people who would be most likely to watch my film trailer, and my ancillary texts should be aimed at the same audience.

88% voters between the ages of 17-22, which means that the results will be an accurate reflection of the views of my primary target audience.

On question 3 voters could choose multiple answers. The majority of votes (13) from the participants reflected that voters would be most likely to buy film magazines if certain articles interested them. Other features of front covers which the voters felt were the most important included information on film reviews and future releases (scoring 10 votes each), so I know I will need to include plugs about these on my own cover to attract my audience. Their results can also be shown on the bar graph I made below:

61% of voters confessed they never buy film magazines. Only 16% buy them more regularly at every couple of months. This revelation tells me that I will need to produce the best front cover possible with all the right features to best attract my target audience.

"Empire" was the most popular film magazine amongst voters, gaining 62% of the votes. This tells me that my own magazine should reflect the style of this particular magazine, as this is a product which my own target audience is most interested in.

On the final question I asked the voters which style of magazine front cover they preferred, giving them two choices. However their response revealed that they did not have any real preference, as 44% preferred simple front cover and 44% also preferred the more complicated design. 11% of voters also held no preference between the two.
